We did it. COVID did not disturb us this time! Our AGM was held on February 5th, in Cork City.

We decided to hold a hybrid event so that everyone , no matter where in the country could attend. The full Board of Management were present as well as the CEO Roos Demol.

Here is the chairperson’s speech:

Chair’s speech

Dear Colleagues in the board

Ladies &Gentlemen,

Welcome all to the International Community Dynamics’s (ICD) first Annual General Meeting.     In the AGM we will present our report and elect new board members.  This report highlights the road ICD took over the past years and to become one of the reference organisations that provide support to refugees and asylum in Ireland. Our groundbreaking work is in advocacy, lobby, campaign, raising awareness on issues related to refugees and promoting their inclusion to rebuild their lives in Ireland.

We do this through our projects such as: Recruit Refugees Ireland, Citadel and KRAC11. Our Chief Executive Officer Mme Roos Demol will tell us more about that.

We have worked hard to be where we are today despite challenges that we are facing as an organisation, we are determined to succeed. Our CEO always reports that the great distresses areas are unemployment within refugee groups and the issue of direct provision.

Funding is also a key issue for our organisation because we want to employ staff to carry this work on daily basis. We are grateful to receive support from IGI and Rethink Ireland. These funds helped us buying the recruitment license and equipment, raising awareness, Capacity building, training and Travel expenses.

We are not alone; we work in partnership with other organisations in order to achieve our aims and goals which cannot be achieved in isolation. We are not there yet but we strongly believe we will be there soon. Our business is still driven by the needs and demands of our members, and this should always be the driving force in what we do.

Now let me congratulate my colleagues of the board who have given their time in writing policies of the organisation and attending meetings. To our volunteers, without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today, many of them are refugees and some are still living in direct provision; and more importantly, our CEO Roos Demol who worked tirelessly throughout the year to promote the organisation.

A special thanks to West Cork Development Partnership who believed in us from the start and who helped us shape the trading part of ICD, Recruit Refugees Ireland.

Thank you to our sponsors IGI, Rethink Ireland, and of course, other strategic partners such as The Africa Solidarity Centre, the Irish Refugee Council, Doras, An Cosan and Mukisa, the Open Doors Project, and Business in the Community’s project Epic, also to those who work together with us and have invited us to speak, Create Sound, IBEC Networks and the IHREC and more recently the Catholic Parish of Kinsale town.

As we embark on a new year may all of us remain united in working for the empowerment of refugees

Chair

And here are the slides as presented by our CEO, Roos Demol. ICD AGM Presentation.pdf

Roos presented the yearly report, with the consequences of COVID for the musical project Citadel and the cricket team KRAC 11, but also introduced the new project, the social enterprise Recruit Refugees Ireland, which is now trading for INternational Community Dynamics.

She gave an overview of the lessons learned and a strategic plan draft for 2022.

The election of the new board was next, and it was decided that this board will stay on for the next year, as it has only become very active over the last few months and everyone was in agreement to keep the same members.
